Wet rated outdoor ceiling fans are more resistant to changes in temperature, as well as rust, wear and tear, and other damages that can be caused by bad weather. For this reason, they are ideal for use in open air porches, pool houses and gazebos.

Damp rated outdoor ceiling fans are also constructed from durable materials but are better suited for covered porches and patios.

Outdoor ceiling fans do not necessarily have to be installed outdoors, though. In fact, they can make great indoor ceiling fans, too, especially those that are light kit adaptable, since they are built to last, though they may not be as stylish as some indoor fans.

Industrial-grade ceiling fans can also double as excellent outdoor fans, especially for spacious porches and pool houses. This is because they usually have larger blade spans, are equipped with heavy duty motors and built to withstand harsh environments.
