Modern Fan Company Ceiling Fans

Most ceiling fan companies offer their models in a wide array of styles, from the classic to the modern, something in between, and sometimes, something that’s altogether different from the rest. The Modern Fan Company focuses on making just one style, though – innovative contemporary ceiling fans – a craft which it has certainly mastered through the years.

The Modern Fan Company

The Modern Fan Co. was established in 1997 by famed industrial designer Ron Rezek, 11 years after his invention of what is recognized as the world’s first contemporary ceiling fans. Up until the mid 1980s, most ceiling fans were traditional, with a touch of Victorian, and it was Rezek who gave consumers sleek alternatives which could fit right in with other modern furnishings.

Previous to inventing the modern ceiling fan, Rezek also designed the rescue cans popularized by the show ‘Baywatch’ as well as contemporary decorative lighting. Recently, he also started another fan company called the Period Arts Fan Co., which offers fans inspired by the design movements of the 20th century.

The Stratos

The Stratos, which remains not only in production but in demand to this day, is Rezek’s first ceiling fan creation, widely regarded as the first modern ceiling fan. Unlike most ceiling fans, it does not use blade irons. Rather, the blades fit in directly to slots in a patented single-piece, die-cast rotor. It also uses downrod installation, only, just like industrial ceiling fans but is a touch classier than these.

Aside from the Stratos, the Modern Fan Company now offers a wide variety of designs – 27, to be exact. All Modern Fan Co. ceiling fans are available in 42″ and 52″ sizes, with the Altus, Ball, Cirrus, Gusto and Velo, available as both huggers and downrod models.

Most models come in two finishes – a metallic one, either brushed aluminum or nickel, and gloss white, while blades are available in aluminum, nickel, white and maple. They are all light kit adaptable and remote control adaptable, as well, with many being Energy Star certified.
