Fanimation Ceiling Fans

Fanimation ceiling fans are synonymous with cutting-edge design. Indeed, Fanimation’s collection includes the original palm leaf fan, the one-of-a-kind Punkah fan system, electric belt-driven fans, the first single-blade fan and various other eye-catching models which have been featured in movies and magazines – a ceiling fan design revolution that started with a man named Tom Frampton.

The Story of Tom Frampton

Tom Frampton, the founder of Fanimation, originally worked for the Special Products Division of the Casablanca fan company, another world-renowned ceiling fan company. While there, he designed the famous Punkah fan, along with other unique pieces, before deciding to move out and establish his own ceiling fan company in 1984.

Fanimation Fan Company

The very first Fanimation ceiling fans were designed and produced right in Frampton’s garage in Pasadena, California. In 1994, the company moved to Indiana where it gradually expanded, and where its corporate headquarters are located today. The company is now headed by Frampton’s son, Nathan, but retains the same family-oriented corporate values and commitment to excellence that have allowed it to earn a top spot in the ceiling fan industry in just less than three decades.

The Punkah

The Punkah is a unique side-to-side synchronized specialty fan that can be mounted on the wall or the ceiling. Up to 6 fan blades can be lined up on one motor, which are available in natural palm leaf and woven bamboo designs in a variety of finishes. It is actually not able to move much air so it is intended just as a decorative piece.

Fanimation Belt-Driven Fans

The first ceiling fans were belt-driven and water-powered, which were eventually replaced by ceiling fans with electric motors. Fanimation is one of the few companies that still manufactures belt-driven fans, namely the Bourbon Street and Brewmaster fans, although these are electrically powered for modern convenience.

Fanimation Ceiling Fan Unique Creations

Aside from the Punkah and the belt-driven models, other unique creations and collections by Fanimation include:

Palisade – Two vertically rotating fans mounted on each end of a rod (lights can be installed at the ends or the middle)

Air Shadow – Ceiling fan with a glass bowl light kit included and retractable blades so it can function as a simple lighting fixture

Cumulos – Round ceiling fan with a white base surrounded by lights and a cage

Enigma – Featured in the movie ‘I, Robot’, the Enigma is a futuristic ceiling fan with only one sleek blade that moves counter-clockwise

Islander – Considered the original palm leaf fan, with both indoor and outdoor models in various tropical designs and finishes

Landan – Fanimation’s most energy-efficient ceiling fan with an LED uplight kit cased in white frosted glass and motor that uses 70% less energy

Marea – Modern ceiling fan with a single, white frosted blade
